MIL-T-21578A
Quick-change clamps - All drive pads shall be equipped
3.4.7.1
with quick- change clamps and shall have a dowel pin for each hole in the acces-
sory mounting flange.
Dowel pins - Diameter, length, and material used for
3.4.7.2
dowel pins shall be as specified in the detail specification.
Clamps - The design, and configuration of quick-change
3.4.7.3
clamps required, shall be as specified in the detail specification,
Variable-speed drives - Minimum and maximum operating
3.4.8
speeds, horsepower values for the various operating speeds, type of drive, (re-
versing or non-reversing) and type of speed regulation (non-automatic or auto-
matic) of variable-speed drives shall be as specified in the detail specification.
The speed control shall provide infinitely variable adjustment throughout the
speed range and shall be free of hysteresis, creep and backlash.
Regulation - Speed regulation shall be +0.5 percent, and
3.4.8.1
is defined as follows (see 6.3.3(n)):
Response - The maximum deviation from the set speed,
3.4.8.2
upon sudden variation of load shall not exceed 1 percent of the set speed. This
deviation shall occur in the direction of load change only, with no subsequent
overshoot.  All transients resulting from sudden load variations or sudden changes
in the set speed shall be effectively damped out in less than O. 1 second (see
6.3.3(n)).
Motor sets - Each driving and driven member shall be
3.4.9
mounted on a common base. All motor sets shall be shock mounted to reduce
vibration and noise to a minimum.  The shock mounting shall be designed to ef-
fectively insulate the assembly from the test unit so as not to transmit percept-
ible vibration to the installed instruments.
Vacuum system - Where vacuum is necessary to meet test
3.4.10
requirements, a complete self-contained vacuum system shall be furnished. This
system shall consist of an electric motor and vacuum pump unit of sufficient ca-
pacity and stability to maintain the test conditions.
Exhaust - Vacuum pumps used for evacuating fuel or oil
3.4.11
tanks and systems shall have an independent exhaust line extending to the rear of
the test equipment.
