5.1.1.2.2 Machined surfaces. Exposed machined surfaces shall be coated with type P-6 or
P-11 preservative and wrapped or covered, as applicable, with barrier material conforming to
MIL-8-121, type I or 11, grade A, class 2. The material shall be secured in place with tape
conforming to MIL-T-22085, type II.
5.1.1.3 Engine. The engine shall be preserved in accordance with the level A requirements
of MIL-E-10062 as specified for type II, method I.
5.1.1.4 Tools. Tools shall be preserved as specified in for unprotected surfaces in 5.1.1.2.
5.1.1.5 Technical publications. Technical publications shall be preserved in accordance with
MIL-P-116, method IC-1 or IC-3.
5.1.1.6 Carrying case. When a carrying case is furnished, the tamper and all items furnished
with the tamper shall be consolidated in the carrying case.
5.1.2 Level C. The complete tamper and all furnished items shall be preserved in a manner
that will provide protection against deterioration and damage from shipment to the initial
destination. This level shall conform to the contractor's standard practice.
5.2 Packing. Packing shall be level A or C as specified (see 6.2).
5.2.1 Level A.
5.2.1.1 When a carrying case is furnished. The case containing the tamper and all furnished
items shall be covered with a close-fitting housing consisting of two sides, two ends, and a top,
constructed in accordance with PPP-B-636, V3c, style optional. The housing shall extend to the
bottom of the case, but not cover the skids, and shall be secured in place with not less than two
straps conforming to QQ-S-781, Class 1, type I or IV, finish A, size 0.50 inch, thickness
optional. Edge protectors shall be provided under the top straps.
5.2.1.2 When a carrying case is not furnished. The tamper and all items furnished with the
tamper shall be packed together in a close-fitting box conforming to PPP-P-601, overseas type,
style optional. The contents shall be blocked, braced or anchored as applicable within the box to
prevent movement or damage. Box closure and strapping shall be in accordance with the
appendix to the box specification.
