g. Color(s) required (see 3.33).
h. When vehicles procured for Air Force shall be marked other
than in accordance with MIL-STD-1223 (see 3.34).

for Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) testing by the Government
(see 3.38.1).
6.3 First article. When a first article inspection is required,
the items should be a preproduction model. The first article should
consist of 2 or more units. The contracting officer should include
specific instructions in acquisition documents regarding arrangements
for examinations, tests and approval of the first article test
results and disposition of the documents first article.
6.4 Incident report. The contracting officer should require the
contractor to furnish a written report within 24 hours of any
incident of equipment malfunction or failure during the conduct of
the test. As a minimum, the report should describe components and
parts affected, test and operating conditions, date of incident,
hourmeter reading, how detected, description of incident, and
corrective action taken.
6.5 Noise. When the noise level of the forklift is 85dB(A) or
greater a yellow with black lettering caution plate stating "CAUTION.
HEARING PROTECTION REQUIRED", shall be mounted easily readable by the
operator and appropriate discussion of the noise hazard shall be
incorporated in the manuals and should include the requirement for
hearing protection, the noise level of the forklift, the distance
from the forklift at which 85dB(A) will always be met, and what
operational situations or system configuration will reduce the level
to 85dB(A).
6.6 Fording test. The contracting officer should arrange for the
contractor to perform the fording test specified in 4.6.2.31 at a
Government facility when desired by the contractor, on a "Rent-Free"
basis.
6.7 Recycled material. It is encouraged that recycled material be
used when practical as long as it meets the requirements of the
specification (see 3.3).
6.8 Contaminant tolerance profile  The contracting officer should

Profile required in 4.6.2.21.5, when requested by the contractor.
