TEST METHOD NO. 12
STEERING WHEEL AND HANDBRAKE FORCE
1.
TEST APPARATUS:
Force measurement equipment.
2.
TEST PROCEDURE:
a. With the engine operating, determine the tangential force at
the steering wheel rim required to turn the wheel from stop to
stop in both directions.
b. Count the number of revolutions required to turn the wheel
from stop to stop. Record the highest force observed.
c. Determine the force necessary to apply the parking brake at
the center of the handgrip, tangential to the arc of its
travel for pivoted handles, or parallel to the path of its
travel for pull-type levers. Record the highest force
observed.
