3.4.1 Gross vehicle weight. The gross vehicle weight shall consist of the weight of the
chassis and the body with all attachments and a payload uniformly distributed in the vehicle body
load area.
3.5 Dimensions. Trailer dimensions shall be as specified in table I. (See 3.3.2 for clearance
between towing vehicle and trailer.)

3.6 Suspension. The trailer shall be equipped with an individual wheel, spring suspension
system having a rated capacity at least equal to the load imposed on each member, measured at
the ground, with the vehicle loaded with specified payload. When suspension capacity is rated at
the spring pads, unsprung weight shall be deducted.
3.7 Axle. The trailer shall be provided with stub type independent axles. Axle rating shall be
at least equal to the load imposed on the axles, measured at the ground with vehicle loaded with
specified payload. The axles shall be provided with means for positive wheel alinement.
*  3.8 Wheels, rims, tires and tubes. The trailer shall be equipped with single wheels and tires.
The rim size and tire ratings shall conform to Tire and Rim Association or European Tyre and
Rim Technical Organisation recommendations for the type and size of tires furnished. Except
when tube type tires are specified in acquisition documents, multi-piece rims shall not be
furnished. Tire and rim sizes shall be the same for all wheels on the vehicle.
*  3.8.1 Tires. Steel belted radial tires shall be furnished. Tires shall be tubeless truck type with
highway tread. Tires shall be of the rated capacity at least equal to the load imposed on each tire,
measured at each wheel, at the ground, with the trailer fully loaded with specified payload. Tires
shall conform to the Tire and Rim Association or to the European Tyre and Rim Technical
Organisation recommendations.
