3.1.1.1 Treatment and painting. The vehicle shall be treated and painted in accordance
with MIL-STD-1223. The exterior color shall be gloss yellow, matching color chip No. 13538
of FED-STD-595. Extruded, pultruded, molded or spiral wound derrick components shall not be
painted.

3.1.1.2 Markings and data plates. As specified by the procuring activity for the
appropriate military service (see 6.2), identification markings and data plates shall be in
accordance with MIL-STD-1223. When specified (see 6.2), concealed markings shall be
furnished.
3.1.1.2.1 Caution plates. Caution plates shall be furnished and mounted in conspicuous
locations near the lower and upper controls and in the driver's compartment. Caution plates shall
conform to composition A (class 1 or 2) or composition C of MIL-P-514. At least the following
information shall appear on the plates:
(a)  DERRICK MUST BE IN STOWED POSITION WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING
MOVED.
(b)  RATED AERIAL BASKET LOAD, HYDRAULIC OUTRIGGERS DOWN, NOT
IN EXCESS OF __________ POUNDS.
(c)  INSPECT AERIAL BASKET LEVELING SYSTEM.
(d)  MAXIMUM VOLTAGE DERRICK AND BASKET(S) WILL WITHSTAND
VOLTS AC.
(e)  OVERALL TRAVEL HEIGHT WHEN DERRICK IS IN STOWED POSITION.
(f)  BASKET LINERS MUST BE INSTALLED WHEN OPERATING NEAR
ELECTRICAL LINES.
(g)  DO NOT PERMIT DIRECT CONTACT OF BASKET(S) TO GROUND WHEN
OPERATING NEAR ELECTRICAL LINES.
(h)  MAXIMUM SIDE SLOPES, _________ DEGREES. MAXIMUM ASCENDING
SLOPES, __________ DEGREES. MAXIMUM DESCENDING SLOPES,
___________ DEGREES.
(i)  DO NOT DRILL HOLES IN BOOM OR BASKET TO DRAIN WATER, DUMP
OUT WATER.
(j)  BOOMS AND BASKET(S) MUST BE KEPT CLEAN AND FREE OF
DAMPNESS.
3.1.1.2.2 Instruction plates. Plates showing schematics of all valves, valve controls,
equipment, body lubrication, and complete operating instructions for operating the vehicle aerial
equipment shall be fastened on the inside of one of the curbside vertical cabinet doors. Each
control lever shall be marked with a plate depicting the function of the control. Individual
markings shall be adjacent to each control. Plates and markings shall conform to composition A
(class 1 or 2) or composition C of MIL-P-514.
3.1.1.2.3 Warning signs. Warning signs or labels, as recommended by the
Manufacturers of Aerial Devices and Digger Derricks Council, shall be furnished and attached.

3.1.1.3 Rustproofing. When specified (see 6.2), the vehicle shall be rustproofed in
accordance with FED-STD-297. When specified (see 6.2), tropical rustproofing in accordance
with FED-STD-297 shall be furnished.
