3.5.1 Bumper and platform extension. A combination bumper and platform extension
shall be provided. A safety tread steel plate shall be provided on top of the platform extension.
The combination bumper and platform extension shall be capable of storing the tamper, pole jack
carrier, and the highway warning kit in accessible locations.
3.5.1.1 Stirrup steps. Stirrup steps shall be furnished on the combination bumper and
platform extension. A grab handle shall be installed to assist personnel in entering the body
loadspace.
3.5.1.2 Access steps. Access steps and grab handles shall be furnished on each side of
type I and type III vehicles. The access steps shall be between the body and the chassis cab and
shall provide for entrance and exit to and from the turret control console or dual controls, as
applicable, or, for type III, for access to the body loadspace. The steps shall be provided with
safety tread steel plate.
