conditions and rotated up and down the grade to determine conformance to 3.3.4 and 3.3.5. The
derrick shall be placed transverse to the longitudinal centerline of the vehicle and the vehicle
engine shut off. The position of the upper head sheave relative to a fixed point shall be noted
and recorded. The position of the upper head sheave relative to the same fixed point shall be
noted after an elapsed period of not less than one hour to determine conformance to 3.3.7.
4.4.5 Dielectric tests. When an insulated section and baskets are furnished, dielectric tests
shall be conducted at line-to-ground voltages specified in 3.7.2 or equivalent dc voltages and as
follows. Except for the basket immersion test, all tests shall be conducted with all components
assembled for operational use.
(a) Secure a cable from the energized conductor bar to the following areas and apply the
required voltage. The total leakage in milliamperes, if any, will be indicated on the
test unit and recorded.
(1) Basket bottom, through the insulated derrick to ground, with and without basket
liner
(2) Basket front, through the insulated derrick to ground, with basket liner
(3) Basket attachment, through the derrick to ground, with and without basket liner.
(b) Disconnect the ground cable and attach to the basket to test as follows:
Secure a cable from the energized conductor bar to the basket front and test. Secure
the cable to the basket bottom and apply the required voltage, with and without
basket liner. The total leakage in milliamperes indicated on the test unit shall be
recorded for each test.
(c) Basket immersion test, with the basket immersed in a brine solution, and the interior
of the basket filled to a depth that is practical to prevent arcing.
4.4.6 Truck body treatment and painting. A certification regarding the body cleaning,
treating, prime painting and salt spray resistance testing required by MIL-STD-1223, shall be
made to the Government representatives at the first production vehicle inspection.
4.4.7 Production sample. Upon acceptance of the first production vehicle, it shall remain
at the manufacturing facility as a production sample, and shall be the last vehicle shipped on the
contract. The contractor shall maintain the vehicle in a serviceable condition for the duration of
the contract.
