3.5.6.4 Auxiliary generator. There shall be installed in an insulated, fireproof
compartment within the body skirt at streetside an auxiliary, 120/240-volt generator of not less
than 4-kW capacity. The generator engine shall be supplied from the vehicle fuel tanks
(see 3.4.3.2). Louvered access doors shall be provided. The generator shall provide electrical
power to operate installed refrigerators, lights and at least one auxiliary electric heater while in
transit. Auxiliary generator will relieve the cost of operation and maintenance of the 30-kW
power plant when interior air conditioning and centrifuges are not being used. The auxiliary
engine generator set installation, engine equipment and accessories, generator compartment, and
generator accessories shall be furnished in accordance with the same requirements specified for
the main engine generator in 3.5.6.3 through 3.5.6.3.3. Exhaust from the engine generator shall
be directed towards the rear rather than the front for dissipation of exhaust gases during in-transit
travel.
3.5.6.5 Power inlet, 120/240-volt. A weatherproof power inlet receptacle shall be
provided near the rear of the vehicle to accept 150 ampere, 120/240-volt, 4-wire, single phase,
60-Hz local power. The receptacle shall be wired into the vehicle electrical system through
appropriate circuit breakers/disconnects.
3.5.6.5.1 Lead-in cable. A 50-foot, neoprene-jacketed, 4-wire, lead-in cable equipped
with a plug and weatherproof receptacle on one end and alligator clips on the other end shall be
provided to permit 120/240-volt local power to be fed directly into the vehicle if so desired. The
cable shall be sized to unit total capacity.
3.5.6.6 Power inlet, 120-volt. One 120-volt, 30-ampere, 3-wire, grounded, weatherproof
inlet receptacle shall be provided on the vehicle exterior feeding a plugmold receptacle within
the body interior. Separate line shall permit the use of plug-in 120-volt equipment plus a
portable nighttime heater within the body interior through use of local power sources via the
lead-in cable. A 50-foot lead-in cable, with standard plugs, shall be provided.
3.5.6.7 Exterior portable floodlights. Waterproof 120-volt receptacles shall be installed
on the body exterior adjacent to the entrance door. Two brackets shall be mounted for holding
floodlights for night illumination. Two 150-watt portable floodlights shall be provided. The
floodlights shall be removable for storage during transit. The floodlight installation shall be
protected by ground fault interrupters.
