control shall be mounted to provide interference with one of the doors of the cabinet to insure
that the emergency valve is closed when the cabinet doors are closed. The control shall have
fusible links to insure automatic closing of the emergency valve in case of fire. One fusible link
shall be located near the emergency valve and one shall be provided near the plumbing system.
3.9.21 Hose, type II. For type II trailer with a plumbing system and engine driven pump, a
non-collapsible hose, suitable for water, diesel fuel and oil, shall be provided. The hose shall be of
not less than 1.500 inches in inside diameter. The hose shall be fitted with removable reducers,
adapters and cam lock fittings of the same size as and compatible with the faucets specified in
3.8.2 and 3.9.2(b). The hose shall be capable of withstanding suction pressures of not less than
29 inches of mercury and discharge pressures of not less than 150 psi. Stowage provisions with
retaining clamps shall be provided on the vehicle. An intake strainer for the hose end shall be
provided as an accessory and stowed in the cabinet. Unless otherwise specified, the hose shall be
not less than 25 feet long. When specified (see 6.2), the hose shall be not less than 100 feet long.
3.9.22 Hose reel. When specified (see 6.2), a hose reel shall be furnished for the 1.500 inch
diameter hose (both lengths of 1.500 inch hose for type I). The reel shall be of the manual rewind
type. A brake or retarder shall be provided on the unwinding side and a crank shall be provided
for rewinding the hose. Four-way rollers shall be provided to prevent damage to the hose.
3.10 Servicing and adjusting. Prior to the acceptance of the vehicle by the Government
inspector, the contractor shall service and adjust each vehicle for operational use, including at
least the following: alinement of wheels, inflation of all tires, and complete lubrication of chassis
and running gear with grades of lubricants recommended for the ambient air temperature at the
delivery point.
3.11 Workmanship. Defective components or parts and assemblies which have been
repaired or modified to overcome deficiencies shall not be furnished. Welded, bolted, and riveted
construction utilized shall be in accordance with the highest standards of the industry.
* 3.11.1 Welding. Welding procedures shall be in accordance with a nationally recognized
welding code. The surface of parts to be welded shall be free from rust, scale, paint, grease, or
other foreign matter. Welds shall be of sufficient size and shape to develop the full strength of the
parts connected by the welds. Welds shall transmit stress without permanent deformation or
failure when the parts connected by the weld are subjected to proof and service loadings. Interior
tank welds shall be without peaks and craters.
