(20 inches). The convex portion shall be attached to the lower mirror supporting arm and shall
not interfere with use of the flat mirror. The mirrors shall have not less than two supporting
arms. When specified (see 6.2), the curbside flat mirror shall be of the motorized type, with
remote control. The mirror motor shall provide not less than 60 degrees horizontal rotational
viewing range. When specified (see 6.2), the flat mirrors shall be electrically heated. Mirror
remote and heating controls shall be within reach of the seated driver.
*  3.4.19 Horn. The manufacturer's standard electric horn shall be furnished. When specified
(see 6.2), in addition, for vehicles with air brakes, an air operated horn shall be furnished.
*  3.4.20 Engine hour meter. An engine hour meter having a totalizing mechanism of not less
than 9,999 hours shall be furnished for the chassis engine to register accurately the number of
hours of operating time. The meter shall be of rugged construction to insure continuous
trouble-free performance under severe operating conditions. The engine hour meter shall be
mounted on the cab instrument panel or in the engine compartment in a readable location.
3.4.21 Backup alarm. When specified (see 6.2), the vehicle shall be provided with an
audible, pulsating, signaling device (electrical or mechanical) to caution personnel when the
vehicle is in a reverse gear operation.
*  3.4.22 Front mounted winch. When specified (see 6.2), the vehicle shall be furnished with a
winch assembly, mounted on the front of the vehicle. The winch shall be powered by the aerial
platform hydraulic system. The winch shall conform to SAE J706. The winch shall be of the
single drum type for hoisting and negotiating purposes and shall have one forward and one
reverse speed. Dual winch controls shall be furnished, one inside the cab and one at the front
bumper. Cab winch controls shall be so located as to provide no interference with the entry or
exit of the driver. The winch shall have a rated single line pull capacity of not less than 9070 kg
(20,000 pounds) on the bare drum. The winch shall be equipped with a hydraulic relief valve set
to restrict the line pull capacity to 9980 kg (22,000 pounds). The winch line speed on the bare
drum shall be between 4570 (15) and 9140 mm (30 feet per minute) at an engine speed equal to
50 percent of engine governed speed. The winch shall be wound with not less than 56 m
(185 feet) of 16 mm (0.625 inch) diameter, preformed, 6x37, improved plow steel, independent
wire rope core (IWRC) wire rope and shall be equipped with an end chain and hook. An
integral, adjustable automatic safety brake shall be provided. The winch shall be equipped with
a 4-way roller guide assembly. The winch shall be equipped with a shaft extension on the
curbside with a capstan drive extension (AT&T type).
