3.5.1 Bumper and platform extension. A combination bumper and body platform extension
shall be provided, extending to the rear not less than 150 mm (6 inches) beyond the cabinets.
Steel or aluminum safety tread plate shall be provided on top of the platform extension.
3.5.1.1 Stirrup steps. Stirrup steps shall be furnished at the rear on both aides, beneath the
combination bumper and platform extension. Grab handles shall be installed to assist personnel
in entering the body. Stirrup steps and grab handles shall be furnished on the rear of both rear
cabinet compartments for access to the top of the cabinets.
3.5.1.2 Access steps. When the turntable is mounted so that a loadspace length of 910 mm
(3 feet) or more is forward of the turntable, access steps and grab handles shall be furnished on
the curbside of the body, located between the back of the cab and the turntable. Cabinet space
may be reduced on the curbside to accommodate the access steps.
