3.6.13.6 Override control. The commander control shall take instantaneous power
control of the turret and gun and the firing circuits from the gunner control when the override
switch in the commander control handle is actuated. Override of the system control by the
commander control shall be obtainable at the neutral position regardless of the handle position of
the gunner control. With the commander control and gunner control in the neutral position, there
shall be no movement of the gun or turret caused by depressing or releasing the override switch
in the commander control handle. With the gunner control in neutral position, gunner control
shall regain system control instantaneously when the commander control handle is released.
3.6.13.7 Control system deadspot. The turret and gun control system deadspot as
measured at the gunner and commander power controls shall not exceed 7 handle movement
from the neutral center position in any direction to initiate gun and turret movement. The neutral
center position shall be defined as that handle position which divides the initial free handle
movement (backlash of linkages) in half. The deadspot angles on each side of the neutral center
in the traverse axis shall be equal within 2 and the deadspot angles in the elevation axis shall be
equal within 2 for both the gunner and commander power control.
3.6.13.8 Gun elevation speeds. The gun shall be controllable in elevation and depression
at all speeds between 0.5 mil per second and 71 mils per second (4 per second). These
requirements are applicable to both the gunner and commander controls.
3.6.13.9 Turret traversing speeds. The turret shall be controllable in traverse at all
speeds between 0.5 mil per second and 170 mils per second. These requirements apply to both
gunner and commander power controls.
3.6.13.10 Main gun stability tests. With the vehicle level or on slopes up to and
including 15 turret attitude, and turret power activated or deactivated, the gun shall not move
more than 0.5 mil in azimuth or elevation during a 1 hour period.
3.6.13.11 Elevation, depression and traverse limits. The angular gun movement and
vehicle clearance shall be in accordance with the following requirements:
a. At a minimum elevation of 20, the main gun shall be capable of being
traversed for 360 by power and manual controls with the elevation and
traverse power switch on. The traverse shall be accomplished without vehicle
interference.
b. At a minimum depression of 10, the main gun shall be capable of being
traversed within the zone of 90 each side of the vehicle front centerline by
power and manual controls with elevation and traverse power switch on. The
traverse shall be accomplished without vehicle interference.
