3.6.15 Electrical system.
3.6.15.1 Intercommunications. Five C2298/VRC intercom control boxes shall be provided
as part of the vehicle. The weapon station shall provide a connection which transmits all the
functions of a C2298/VRC intercom control box.
3.6.15.1.1 Weapon station intercom noise. The noise level in the weapon station intercom
when the hydraulic pump motor has been induced to run shall be measured, across a 10.5K ohm
resistor connected across the audio output, to be less than 350 millivolts AC/rms. The following
conditions must be followed to obtain this measurement:
a. Turn the AM/1780 audio AMP power circuit breaker to ON (NOTE: Power on
indicator lights). Set the MAIN POWER selection switch to INT. ONLY. Set the
INT accent to OFF. Set the radio transmission selection switch to CDR + CREW.
b. Set the volume controls to full volume (full CW) and the set selector switch to
INT ONLY on all C2298/VRC intercommunications controls; and
c. Connect a 150 ohm load across the MIC input of the AlA3J2 headset connector on
the turret.
3.6.15.2 Slip ring circuits. The weapon station slip ring shall provide uninterrupted
continuity of communications, power and signal circuits throughout continuous 360 degrees of
traverse. Each slip ring power circuit shall conduct 200 amperes of constant current between the
chassis and the weapon station. Each slip ring signal circuit shall conduct a maximum of
7 amperes continuous current. The operation of the slip rings shall not introduce noise or static
into the communications system, which would impair intercommunication intelligibility.
3.6.15.3 Missile arming. The missile arming system shall provide remote selection/arm
capability at the gunner's station.
3.6.15.3.1 Missile select. The weapon station shall provide for missile selection, which
activates the arming circuits of the selected missile. An indication shall be provided which
verifies that the selected missile arming circuits have been activated.
3.6.15.3.2 Missile arm/safe. A protected arm/safe selector shall be provided which serves to
arm a selected missile by activating the appropriate remote arming device (RAD). The RAD
shall then extend its HI-G shear pin plunger and firing circuit umbilical plug. An armed
indication shall be provided to the gunner, which shows when a RAD has been activated. The
safe position of the arm/safe selector shall:
a. Enable the wire-cut signal to pass from the MGS to a spent round; and
b. Energize the selected RAD to retract its HI-G shear pin plunger and firing circuit
umbilical plug.
