3.15.4 Rail transportability. The distributor shall be rail transportable in CONUS and
NATO countries without restrictions. The distributors shall have a dimensional profile within
the Gabarit International de Chargement (GIC) (see figure 1), outline diagram when loaded on a
50-inch (127 cm) high rail car. The distributors shall be capable of withstanding shock loads
resulting from rail impact testing in accordance with 4.5.2.6.4 without failure, damage, or
permanent deformation.
3.15.5 Highway transportability. The distributor, when loaded on a semitrailer/tractor, shall
be within the highway permit limits of all states.
3.16 Lifting and tiedown instruction plates. Instructions for use of the attachments or
procedures shall be included on a noncorrosive metal plate permanently affixed to the distributor.
The plate shall include a silhouette of the item together with the center of gravity.
3.17 Performance. The distributor shall be capable of performing the following functions:
a. Pump bitumen from an external source into the bitumen tank without bitumen
entering the spraybar.
b. Pump bitumen from an external source to another external source without bitumen
entering the tank or the spraybar.
c. Pump bitumen from the bitumen tank back to the bitumen tank without the bitumen
entering the spraybar.
d. Pump bitumen from the bitumen tank through the spraybar back to the bitumen tank.
e. Pump bitumen out the bitumen tank to an external source without the bitumen
entering the spraybar.
f. Uniformly apply bitumen at rates from 0.1 gal/sq yd (.38 L/sq m) to not less than
1.0 gal/sq yd (3.78 L/.84 sq m) and at any rate in between without streaking or
puddling.
g. Pump bitumen out of the bitumen tank to the hand-spray attachment.
h. Withdraw bitumen from the spraybar and all piping and return to the bitumen tank.
i. Pump flushing oil through all piping and the spraybar without the flushing oil
entering the bitumen tank.
j. Withdraw bitumen from the hand-spray attachment or blow-out bitumen from
hand spray attachment.
