3.7.1 Weight limits. For airdrop, the distributor, without the removable ROPS/FOPS,
without auxiliary hose assembly, without sectionalization kit, but with all other attachments,
accessories, coolant, lubricating and hydraulic systems filled to capacity and with not less than
25 percent nor more than 75 percent fuel, shall weigh no more than 30,600 pounds. The type II
distributor when sectionalized into 2 sections shall weigh not more than 16,000 pounds per
section.
3.7.2 Dimensions. The overall width of the distributor shall not exceed 104 inches except
that the width may be increased to not more than 105 inches to accommodate special
airborne/airmobile provisions. The operational lengths of the types I and II distributors shall not
exceed 392 and 423 inches respectively. In order to conform to a height limit of 100 inches when
rigged for airdrop, the reducible height of the distributor should be riot more than 91 inches. No
major component removal, except MPS/FOPS canopy, shall be required to obtain the reduced
height. If the height exceeds 91 inches (provided the rigged load can meet the tipoff curve given
in MIL-STD-814, figure 9) the contractor must demonstrate prior to step I proposal opening date
that the distributor can be rigged so as to conform to the 100 inch limit and MIL-STD-814 tipoff
curve, and withstand the forces encountered in the simulated airdrop impact test (see 4.5.2.15)
without damage or permanent deformation.
3.8 Sectionalizaton. The type II distributor, less ROPS/FOPS shall be capable of being
sectionalized into two sections for helicopter transport. The weight of either section shall not
exceed 16,000 pounds. The powered section shall be driveable and steerable under its own power
for a distance of 50 feet over relatively flat unimproved areas. The reassembly and disassembly
times, with tools furnished with the distributor and with the tools available to the operator under
field conditions and without assistance of other powered equipment, shall not exceed 4 hours
each. Cutting and welding are not permitted. Components and accessories used in
sectionalization and reassembly shall be stored on the distributor or in a demountable container
attached to the vehicle but shall not interfere with the operation of the equipment.
3.9 Performance. The distributor shall withstand the usage encountered in military operations
such as self-loading, hauling and evenly distributing water. The distributor shall withstand
crossing roadless rough terrain, including gullies causing the tractor tanker to oscillate in both
directions, fording streams, and negotiating steep longitudinal and sidehill slopes, without
damage. The distributor shall be capable of having its normal construction tasks performed by
one operator including filling of the tank. The distributor shall be capable of driving at maximum
travel speed in transport, being towed by another vehicle, and limited towing of other equipment.
3.9.1 Travel speed. The distributor shall be capable of a forward travel speed of not less than
20 mph, loaded, on level pavement.
3.9.2 Braking. The distributor's braking performance shall be in accordance with
SAE J1152. In event of power assist failure, the distributor shall be capable of being stopped with
a brake force not to exceed 70 pounds.
