MILITARY SPECIFICATION
FEEDER, AUTOMATIC GUN: M3A1
This specification is approved for use by all Departments
and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
SCOPE
1.
1.1 This specification covers one type of gun-driven feed mechanism
afor ammunition belted with M17 links for use on the 20mm, M61 and M61A1
automatic guns. The feeder pulls in the link-belted ammunition, strips
the ammunition from the links, ejects the empty links, and feeds the de-
linked ammunition into the gun. The feeder includes an electrically
operated declutching feature for clearing the gun of ammunition, and
switches for a rounds counter and a last round indicator.
