MIL-T-48578(MU)
4.6.9 Rain. This test shall be performed on the deflector assembly
only as specified in MIL-STD-810, Method 506.2 Procedure I. Subsequent
to this test the unit shall be tested to 4.6.10 thru 4.6.12 to determine
compliance wiht 3.5.2.6. A visual inspection shall show no evidence of
moisture inside the deflector housing.
4.6.10 Mechanical and electrical interface. - This test shall be
performed using a standard resistance bridge or equivalent. Measure the
D.C. resistance between the M55 ground and the mount F11747147 to deter-
mine compliance with 3.6.1.
4.6.11 Controls. - Requirements 3.6.2.1 and 3.6.2.2 shall be per-
formed with a visual verification of correct operation.
4.6.12 Deflection movement. - A wall target as described in 4.5.3.1
shall be positioned in accordance with the set-up procedure on Drawing
F11739405 at a distance of ten meters in front of the deflector assembly.
The face of the target shall be perpendicular to the line of sight of the
artillery trainer and the target shall be plumbed. With the M55 Gunnery
trainer mounted in the find test fixture F11739405, attach the artillery
trainer to the M55 and level the level vial. Rotate the index mark on
the shoulder of the adapters to align with the arrow on the deflector
housing. Be sure to align the marks only in the center of travel of the
adapters. After making all the proper electrical connections, apply
power and verify that the center of the laser beam falls inside the
backlash tolerance block on the target (2cm x 2 cm). If necessary,
place the center of the laser beam on the center of the crosshair of the
backlash tolerance block. Verify that both the azimuth and elevation
knob scales read zero, correct if necessary using the slip scales.
Using this setup perform 4.6.12.1 and 4.6.12.2.
4.6.12.1 Elevation. - Rotate the elevation knob in depression tO
to 50 mil setting. At the target visually determine if the laser beam
center is within the tolerance block around the 50 mil crosshair. Slowly
return the elevation knob to the 0 mil setting, being careful not to over-
shoot and at the target visually determine if the laser beam Center is
inside the backlash tolerance block of the central crosshair. This
test will determine compliance with 3.6.3.2.1 and 3.6.3.2.2.
4.6.12.2 Azimuth. Rotate the azimuth knob in either direction
to the 40 mil setting. At the target visually determine if the laser
beam center is within the tolerance block around the 40 mil crosshair.
Slowly return the azimuth knob to the 0 mil setting being careful not to
overshoot and at the target visually determine if the laser beam center
is inside the backlash tolerance block of the central crosshair. Repeat
this procedure in the opposite direction. This test will determine
compliance with 3.6.3.2.3 and 3.6.3.2.4.
4.6.12.3 Sealing. - This test shall be performed utilizing special
test equipment. The pressure testing equipment to test sealing of the
deflector assembly shall conform to the internal pressure test requirements
of Drawing F8565556, pressure-two; station, to conform to the requirements
of 3.7. At the conclusion of this test the deflector assembly shall be
flushed and pressurized in accordance with the requirements of 3.7.
