3.6.12.9.2.4 Hand controller indicator. A missile trigger actuated indication shall be
provided to the operator. It shall indicate a closed trigger circuit, when the trigger circuit is
closed and the TOW Missile Guidance Set (MGS) is installed and sufficiently powered.
3.6.12.9.3 Nightsight remote controls. Remote nightsight controls shall be provided to
adjust nightsight image brightness, contrast, focus and field of view (FOV) selection. These
controls shall be smooth and continuous in operation, excluding the FOV control which is two
position.
3.6.12.9.4 Other controls and indicators. Controls and indicators shall also be provided to
control or indicate:
a.
Accumulator nitrogen pressure.
b.
Weapon station roll angle (-10 to +10 degrees) with illumination.
c.
Weapon station azimuth relative to the vehicle with illumination.
d.
Ready to load condition. Indicator shall be illuminated and visible to personnel
behind the gunner, and shall provide brightness control/lamp test features.
e. Vehicle lateral cant angle (-20 to +20 degrees) with illumination.
f. An audible alarm which sounds when the system is in the fire interrupt condition, and
either remote arming device is in the armed state.
g. Cumulative time that power has been applied to the weapon station, primary or
emergency.
3.6.13 Optics. The optics system shall consist of; weapon station Image Transfer Assembly
(ITA) and vision blocks, squad leader's periscope (SLP), and vehicle hull periscopes/vision
blocks.
3.6.13.1 Image Transfer Assembly (ITA). The ITA is a unity (1X) periscope, which serves
as an optical relay between the gunner and the TOW daysight/tracker and nightsight, and also
provides a wide field acquisition sight. The ITA shall provide features required to accommodate
these three selectable optical input channels. It shall provide articulation, when the weapon
station is positioned to the erect, stow and load positions of the weapon station launcher.
3.6.13.1.1 Sight selection. The ITA shall provide for gunner selection of an image at the
gunner eyepiece from:
a. The acquisition sight, 2.8X magnification with 25 degree field of view.
b. The TOW daysight, 13X magnification with 5.5 degree field of view.
c. The TOW nightsight, 4X and 12X magnification with attending field of view either
3.4 X 6.8 degrees or 1.1 X 2.2 degrees.
The ITA shall require no more than 2 seconds to switch from one channel to any other channel.
