4.5.6 Hydraulic system performance. (After assembly of the hydraulic system,
not assembled in the chair). After assembly of the hydraulic system, with the
system properly filled with fluid and purged (air removed), the hydraulic system
shall be subjected to a load of 350 5 pounds for a minimum of 30 minutes and
700 5 pounds for a minimum of 2 minutes. The load shall be applied by utilizing
a fixture containing a spring (calibrated for the specified loads) such that the
cylinder rod of the cylinder assembly can be pumped against the spring in a
vertical position until the specified load is applied to the system. The system
shall be observed during the test and inspected after each load application.
4.5.7 Overall chair operation.
4.5.7.1 Operation of the chair (Linear and angular movement). The assembled
chair shall be operated to the positions shown in figure 6 and the linear and
angular dimensions shall be measured.
4.5.7.2 Operation of the chair (unloaded). The chair shall be subjected to
operational testing which shall consist of, but shall not be limited to, the
following systems or components. Each system or component shall be operated for
a minimum of three operations or cycles (as applicable).
Hydraulic system operation (raising and lowering of the chair,
operation of speed control valve).
Back position control operation (functional including capability
of locking the back in any position through entire range of travel).
Operation of seat pivot ("UP and "DOWN" position) see figure 6.
Operation of release lever (with chair attached to the case bottom).
Operation of arm assemblies.
Toe section (attachment and removability).
Head rest (attachment and adjustability).
4.5.7.3 Operation of the chair (loaded). The number of pumps (operations of
the foot lever) to raise the chair from its lowest to its highest position
under loads as specified in 3.17.5.3 shall be determined. The distribution of
loads shall be as specified in figures 14 through 17. The chair shall be
examined for defects such as leakage after each test.
