FIRST ARTICLE-INITIAL PRODUCTION TESTING REQUIREMENTS FOR CANNON:

This AppendiX details all. requirements and

inspection methods necessary for First Article - Initial
Production Testing (FA-IPT). This Appendix is a mandatory part
of the specification. The information contained herein is
intended for compliance.

REQUIREMENTS
30.
FA-IPT tests shall be conducted on cannon
30.1 FA-IPT te s t i n g
or critical assemblies or parts thereof when:
a new contractor is utilized,
a.
b.
a time lapse of one year has occurred since the item was
last produced by the contractor,
significant changes have been made in a manufacturing
c.
process or material,
a design change is made.
d.
If the cannon or critical assemblies or parts thereof fail FA-IPT
testing, then failure analysis shall be invoked (see 40.4).
30.2 Pro of Firing Test. The requirements for the proof firing
are contained in 3.5.1, 3.5.2, and 3.5.3.
30.3 CLimatic= The cannon shall function Satisfactory function
satisfactorily within
the temperature range of +125F to -50F.

of the round and ejection of the empty cartridge case with the
breech remaining open after ejection. In addition, the breech
must perform the firing and ejection functions without damage to
the breech components.
30.4 RAM-D. The requirements for RAM-D are contained in
Appendix B of MIL-C-45978. When specified, these RAM-D
requirements shall be met during FA-IPT.
