TABLE II. Trailer specifications. (Cont'd)
VMRS No.
Feature/Requirements
VMRS 16 (Cont'd)
Provide sufficient articulation to maintain
equal loading on each wheel during the min.
articulation distance with max. 1 percent of
GVWR allowable tolerance.
Provide elastomer stops and bumpers to
prevent metal-to-metal contact and damage
when the axle reaches max. wheel compression
position and when the axle reaches max. wheel
rebound position. Suspension installation is
correct alignment with tow eye and trailer
centerline, per both suspension and axle
manufacturers.
Spring working loads rated per
TTMA RP No. 32.
VMRS 16-008
Air ride.
When specified (see 6.2, T-9), provide
air-spring type suspension intended for on-off
road use.
Min. 8-in. travel range from compression to
rebound each axle.
On each axle, provide a transverse torsion type
anti-sway bar assembly linking together the
roadside and curbside trailing member and axle
mounts. Provide single or multiple HD
telescopic shock absorbers, at each wheel, to
control compression and rebound.
Provide cushioning elastomer bumper stops to
prevent metal-to-metal bottoming-out of the
suspension during compression.
Provide positive cushioning stops other than
shock absorbers to halt rebound and withstand
min. 2-g unsprung weight deceleration, typical
or lowering the suspended trailer with a crane.
Air spring suspension of trailing member type,
having piston or multiple bellows per
SAE J551, internal bumpers.
Provide air pressure protection valve, air
controls, and air-tight plumbing.
