the towing truck.
Drawbar.
VMRS 59-004
Provide A-frame or pole type trailer drawbar
on front of trailer.
Min. drawbar length, measured from
center of tow eye to No. 1 trailer crossmember,
per table I of the applicable size specification
sheet.
Provide A-frame angle to permit towing truck
of 96-in. width to turn min. 60-degree right and
min. 60-degree left, with respect to the trailer,
without interference, except for size 1 and
size 9.
Provide size 1 compatible with 74 in. wide
towing truck.
Provide size 9 with min. 40 degree turning
angles when towed by GI trucks.
Lunette Assembly.
VMRS 59-007
Provide tow eye per SAE J847.
Provide tow eye of alloy steel having a case
hardened wear surface for at least 120 degrees
on the forward, top and bottom of the eye.
Locate the center of the tow eye within a max.
tolerance of 1/4-in. from the longitudinal
centerline of the trailer. Except for sizes 1
and 3, provide multiposition vertical range of
tow eye adjustment from at least 26-in. height
per SAE J749, for crawler tractor drawbars,
thru at least 33-in. height per SAE J849, for
truck and trailer pintle hooks.
Provide range of 20 to 25 in. lunette height for
size 1 and 3 chassis.
Provide change of height adjustment, of
chassis 4 and larger, by a mechanic using only
common mechanic's tools per 3.7.
