5. PACKAGING
5.1 Preservation. Preservation shall be level A, or commercial, as specified (see 6.2).
5.1.1 Level A.
5.1.1.1 Trailer chassis. The trailer chassis shall be preserved in accordance with the level A
(mobile) requirements of MIL-STD-281.
5.1.1.2 Repair parts. Repair parts shall be preserved in accordance with MIL-P-116.
5.1.1.3 Maintenance tools. The tools shall be preserved in accordance with the level A
requirements of PPP-P-40.
5.1.1.4 Consolidation. The repair parts and maintenance tools shall be placed in boxes
conforming to PPP-B-601, Overseas Type, Grade B. Strapping shall conform to QQ-S-781,
Class 1, Type 1 or IV, size as applicable; and, unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), strapping
shall be finish B. When specified (see 6.2), strapping shall be finish A.
5.2 Packing. Packing shall be level A, or commercial, as specified (see 6.2).
5.2.1 Level A. The trailer chassis shall be prepared for mobile shipment, and consolidated
boxes shall be placed on the trailer chassis and secured by strapping, bolting, or similar means.
Strapping shall be as specified in 5.1.1.4.
5.2.2 Commercial. Commercial packing shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1188.
5.3 Marking.
5.3.1 Level A packaging. Marking shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
5.3.2 Commercial packaging. Marking shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1188.
5.4 Depreservation guide. Two depreservation guides (see 6.13) shall be prepared. One
guide shall be placed in a waterproof envelope marked "Depreservation Guide" and secured in a
conspicuous location on the van body. The other guide shall be placed in the package with the
technical manuals and the package marked to indicate the depreservation guide is inside. Unless
otherwise specified (see 6.2), DA Form 2258, "Depreservation Guide for Vehicles and
Equipment" shall be used.
