5. PACKAGING
5.1 First article pack. The contractor shall furnish a first article pack
for examination within the time frame specified (see 6.2) to prove prior to
starting productuon packaging that the appplied preservation, packing, and
marking comply with the packaging requirements of this specification.
Examination shall be as specified in section 4 and shall be subject to
surveillance and approval by the Government (see 6.4). The first article pack
may be prepared utilizing either the first article model or a production
camoouflage screening support system. When the first article model is
utilized, any preservationand packing shall be removed by  the contractor at
no expense to the Government, when requested by the Government, to facilitate
comparison between the first article model and production camouflage screening
support systems.
5.2 Preservation. Preservation shall be level A, B or C as specified (see
6.2).
5.2.1 Camouflage support system assembly.
5.2.1.1 Level A. The components comprising a complete camouflage support
system assembly (see 3.1.2), shall be properly positioned and contained within
the furnished carrying case and then placed in a polyethylene bag fabricated
from material conforming to L-P-378, type I, class 1, grade C, finish I, film
thickness 0.006 inches. The bag shall be tightly compressed around the
carrying case by vacuum, and the bag closed by heat sealing (see 6.5). The
bag containing the support system, shall then be placed in a close-fitting box
conforming to PPP-B-636, V3s, style FTC-L. The boxes shall be assembled and
closed as specified in the appendix to the box specification.
5.2.1.2 Level B. The component comprising a complete camouflage support
system assembly, contained within the furnished carrying case, shall be
preserved as specified for levelA in 5.2.1.1, except the box shall conform to
PPP-B-636, type CF, class domestic, variety SW, grade3 as applicable to the
weight or the contents, style FTC-L. Box assembly and closure shall be in
accordance with the appendix to the box specification.
5.2.1.3 Level C. The components comprising a complete camouflage support
system assembly, contained within the furnished carrying case, shall be
preserved to afford protection against damage and deterioration during
shipment and handling fromthe contractor to the initial destination.
5.2.2 Camouflage support system individual component.
5.2.2.1 Levels A and B. Individual support system components, when
required (see 6.2), shall be placed in unit containers. The unit containers
