that may impair proper functioning. The cleaning method shall not be injurious
to any of the parts nor shall the parts be contaminated by the cleaning agents.
Exterior surface coatings shall be continuous except for a few light scratches
not exposing base material. All required markings shall be neat, clean and
sharply defined.
3.12 First article inspection. This specification makes provisions for
first article inspection. Requirements for the submission of first article
samples by the contractor shall be specified in the contract.
3.13 Moisture content of detonator assembly explosives.
3.13.1 Lead azide. The moisture content of the lead azide used in
loading the detonator, at the time of loading, shall not exceed 0.50 percent.
3.13.2 Pentaerythrite tetranitrate (PETN). The moisture content of
the PETN used in loading the detonator, at the time of loading, shall not
exceed 0.50 percent.
3.14 Waterproofness of detonator.  The detonator shall be waterproof as
evidenced by normal functioning after being immersed in water maintained at
a temperature of 20 degrees Centigrade (C.), plus or minus 1 degree C., for
a period of 48 hours minimum, at a depth of 2 to 3 inches.
3.15 Functioning of detonator.  The detonator shall function on the
first attempt when initiated by an M106 Primer and shall cause a 1/4 inch
minimum diameter perforation in a 0.1345 inch minimum thickness lead disc
when tested as specified herein.
4.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Responsibility for inspection.
Unless otherwise specified in the
contract, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all
inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise
specified in the contract, the contractor may use his own or any
other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirement
specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government
reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the
specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure
supplies and services conform to the prescribed requirements. Reference
shall be made to MIL-STD-109 in order to define terms used herein.
The provisions of MIL-A-2550 shall apply.
