MIL-G-48438A(Mu)
4.4 Reliability Run-in. - Subsequent to the successful perform-
ance requirements of this specification the STG shall be subjected to
50 hours on Run-in time. The Run-in shall exclude any down-time
necessary for repairs. It shall include vibration, followed by at
least 4 hours at -4F and at least 4 hours at +125F.
4.4.1 Vibration run-in. - The vibration test shall be performed
as specified in MIL-SID-810, Method 514.1, Procedure IX, Part 1.
Subsequent to the vibration test, the STG shall not have been damaged
or adversely affected and shall meet the performance requirements
of this specification.
4.4.2 Temperature run-in. - The STG shall be placed in a chamber
and the temperature gradually raised at a rate not to exceed 2F per
minute until thermally stabilized at plus 125F. Five minutes after
power is applied, test to the performance requirements of paragraph
4.4.4 shall commence. A second complete test to the requirements of
paragraph 4.4.4 shall be accomplished during the middle of the four hour
period and a third test to the performance requirements of paragraph 4.4.4
shall be accomplished during the last part of the hour test. Repeat the
above tests at a temperature of -4F. Subsequent to the above temperature
extremes (plus 125F and -4F) the STG shall not have been damaged or
adversely affected and shall meet the performance requirements of this
specification.
4.4.3 Failures. - Failures during Reliability Run-in shall not
be cause for rejection, but shall be corrected as outlined in 3.7.3.
4.4.4 Run-In-Tests. - The STG shall meet all the performance
requirements of 4.3.12 with the exception of the following:
a. Paragraphs 4.3.12.1 through 4.3.12.1.4 shall not be tested.
b. Tests performed under paragraph 4.3.12.2.2 shall be limited
to flight path number 4, 12, 15, 26, 33, 48, 52, 66, 78,
86, 95.
4.5 Reliability Demonstration. - Subsequent to the Reliability Run In,
a reliability demonstration test shall be conducted as part of First Article
Test to assure compliance with para 3.8 at a 70% confidence level. The
system shall operate at least 4 hours during exposure to each operating
environments of 3.2 and after each non-operating environment of 3.2.
Additional hours shall be accumulated at 75 15F until the total test
operating hours meet the accept/reject criteria of Table III. The per-
formance requirements of para 3.6 shall be performed at least once every
four hours of operation during ambient temperature exposure to the operating
environments of para 3.2. The sample size shall be as a minimum the First
Article Sample size. The data obtained from the Reliability Run In Test
may be used as part of the Demonstration Test based upon approved by the
Frankford Arsenal Reliability & Maintainability Engineering Branch, SARFA-
QAF-R. The approval will consider failures in terms of being charged to
reliability.
