4.5.2 Tests.
4.5.2.1 Test conditions.  Unless otherwise specified in a test, tests shall
be performed without shelter and at the climatic conditions existing at the
place of test.  The kettle shall operate as specified herein without maintenance
other than the contractor's recommended normal scheduled maintenance as
established by a maintenance schedule prepared and submitted by the contractor
prior to test.
4.5.2.2 Tank capacity.  Determine the capacity of the melting tank. A melting
tank capacity less than that specified for the applicable size shall constitute
failure of this test.
4*5.2.3 Grille (size 2).  Place a 55-gallon drum, filled with liquid asphalt,
on the grille and drain the asphalt into the melting tank.  Bends, breaks, or
permanent deformation of the grille or any part of the kettle shall constitute
failure of this test.
4.5.2.4 Burner.  Ignite and operate the burner for 1 hour. Determine the
amount of fuel consumed by the burner.  Consumption of less than 2.5 gallons of
fuel, malfunction of the burner or burner controls, or smoking shall constitute
failure of this test.  To prevent damage to the furnace shell remove the burner
before conducting this test.
4.5.2.5 Performance (size 1).  Fill the kettle with asphalt cement (chunk
type ).  Ignite the burner and continue to add asphalt cement until the melting
tank is filled to capacity.  Continue heating until the asphalt cement reaches
