Parts and Materials - Parts and Materials used in the manufacture
3.2
of the rocket launcher package shall conform to the applicable specifications
as set forth herein and as listed on the pertinent drawings.
3.2.1
Dissimilar Metals - Unless suitably protected against electrolytic
corrosion, dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each
other. Dissimilar metals are defined in MIL-sTD-889.
3.2.2
Selection of Materials - Specifications and Standards of all mate-
rials and parts and Government Certification and approval of processes and
equipment, which are not specifically designated herein, and which are necessary
for the execution of this specification, shall be selected in accordance with
MIL-STD-143.
Standard Parts - Standard parts (MS, AN or JAN) shall be used wherever

they are suitable for the purpose, and shall be identified on the drawing by
their part number. Commercial utility parts such as screws, bolts, nuts,
cotterpins, etc., may be used provided they possess suitable properties and
are replaceable by the standard parts (AN, MS, JAN) without alteration, and
provided the corresponding standard part numbers are referenced in the parts
list and, if practicable, on the contractor's drawings. In the event there is
no suitable corresponding standard parts in effect on date of invitation for
bids, commercial parts may be used provided they have been certified, accom-
panied by objective quality evidence (as defined under MIL-STD-109) that the
parts are to all the requirements of this specification.
Interchangeabilit y - All parts having the same part number shall be

completely interchangeable with each other with respect to installation and
performance.  Parts joined together as by welding or riveting shall be inter-
changeable as assemblies.
3.3
Design and Construction
General - The design and construction of the launchers shall conform

to drawings listed on IL356AS228 No departure from, revision or change to
the drawings specified herein shall be permitted without prior approval of
the procuring agency.  In the event changes are approved, the contractor shall
furnish the procuring activity with reproducible drawings covering the change.
Conformance to the drawings will not relieve the contractor of the requirements
of paragraph 3.2.4.
3.3.2
Forward and Aft Fairings - The launcher shall have a streamlined
Forward Fairing which shatters upon rocket impact. The Aft Fairing shall have
an open end and shall be capable of being used for several firings.
Fairing Design - Fairings shall remain intact on the launcher center
3.3.2.1
section without crushing under flight conditions of 600 knots IAS at 1000 feet
altitude above sea level at 9,0g's positive and 2.Og's negative loading.  The
Forward Fairing shall also withstand a 435 pound side load and a 1390 pound
axial load without crushing.  Fairing frangibility shall not be adversely
effected by exposure to 100 percent relative humidity at 38 degrees C for 24
hours.
