3.3.6.2  Welders.
All welders shall be qualified for the types
of welds required in the fabrication of fuel tank modules.  Before
assigning any welder to welding work, the contractor shall provide
the contracting officer with certification that the welder has
passed qualification tests as prescribed by either of the following
listed codes for the type of weldlng operation to be performed and
that such qualification is effective as defined by that particular
code.
AWS D1.1, Structural Welding Code, Section 5.
Qualification - Welding Inspection Manual
Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Welding Qualification,
Section IX (ASME)
3.3.6.3  Electrodes.  Welding electrodes shall meet the require-
ments of either MIL-E-19933 or MIL-E-22200/2.  Electrodes used to
weld class 304L corrosion - resisting steel shall be type MIL-309
or MIL-310 only.
3.3.7 Castings and forgings.  Castings and forgings shall be manu-
factured in accordance with Drawing No. 845009A0000.  All castings
shall be free from patching, inclusions, misplaced coring, warping,
or any other defect that reduces the castings' ability to perform
its intended function.  Forgings shall be uniform in quality and
condition,  and shall be free from tears, cracks, seams, laps,
internal ruptures, imbedded scale, segregation and other defects.
3.3.8  Bolted and pinned connections.  Bolt and pin holes shall
be accurately punched or drilled and shall have the burrs removed.
3.3.9 Machine work.  Where machined surfaces are required to be
heat treated, hardened, finish grounded, plated or coated, the part
dimensions,  as specified in Drawing No. 845009A0000, shall be main-
tained.
3.3.10 Metal fabrication.  Metal used in the fabrication of the
fuel tank modules shall be free from kinks and sharp bends.  The
straightening of material shall be done by methods that will not
cause injury to the metal.  Flame cutting, using a tip suitable
for the thickness of the metal, may be employed instead of shearing
Reentrant cuts may be made with controlled means in

order to insure uniformity of size and shape.  Precautions shall be
taken to avoid overheating, and heated metal shall be allowed to
cool slowly.  The use of dissimilar metals in intimate contact with
each other shall be avoided wherever possible.  When the use of
dissimilar metals cannot be avoided, an interposing material that
