3.1 Description., The portable asphalt-mixing plant shall consist of all
fuel-storage
units, diesel engines, and other components, except heater
tank, hot-oil heaters, asphalt melters, asphalt-storage tanks, and asphalt-
storage transfer pump, required to result in a complete plant for continu-
ously producing high-type asphaltic concrete mixes at a capacity of 100 to
150 tons per hour. The plant shall include but not be limited to the follow-
ing units:
Cold-aggregate feeder of hopper and frame construction used for
(a
)
blending and feeding predetermined amounts of aggregate tO the
cold-aggregate elevator.
(b) Cold-aggregate elevator of the centrifugal-discharge bucket type
to receive cold aggregate from the feeder and discharge into the
dryer.
(c) Aggregate dryer of single-rotating-drum construction to heat and
dry the aggregate received from the cold-aggregate elevator.
(d) Fines (dust) collector of the exhaust fan and centrifugal cyclone-
type separator to provide draft, remove products of combustion,
and collect the fines emerging from the dryer.
(e Two hot-aggregate elevators of the totally-enclosed, centrifugal-
)
. discharge, bucket type to receive the hot, dried aggregate.
(f) Gradation control unit of the 4-bin screening type to receive
aggregate from the hot-aggregate elevator, separate and recombine
..
the aggregate in the required proportions, and discharge into the
hot-aggregate elevator serving the mixer.
m
...
(g) Fines feeder of the hopper-and-vane or screw-conveyor type to meter
granular mineral filler into the hot-aggregate elevator feeding
the pugmill.
(h) Portable conveyor of the elevating-troughing type for general use
or to receive hot aggregate from the dryer and discharge into the
mixer or single aggregate hopper when a hot-aggregate elevator is
not wed for that purpose.
(i) Mixer of the continuous proportioning and mixing type to receive
aggregate, spray, and mix with water or bitumen as required for
various mixes.
(j) Piping system required for contral-plant erection and operation
with tank car, melter, and transport unloading.
(k) Diesel engines.
The above units shall be mounted on semitrailers conforming to the weights
and dimensions specified in 3.1.5 and maybe grouped at the discreteion of the
supplier as long as the plant can be interconnected mechanically and operated
at rated capacity under each of the following production arrangements:
