Function - The NC shall be a general purpose digital
3.5.7.1
computer and shall be programmed for geographic and tactical navigation
and to process data for the various tactical displays and controllers.
The NC shall contain the program and switching output discretes to
permit both ground and in flight operation and shall provide the control
signals to maintain the CN-1231/ASN-84 Gyroscope Assembly as the stabilized
inertial reference.  The NC shall contain built-in-test circuitry and
program subroutines which shall determine system Go or No-Go conditions.
Form Factor - The NC, exclusive of fan, handles, and
3.5.7.2
connector projections, shall be formed within the following maximum

Weight - The weight of the NC shall not exceed 42
3.5.7.3
pounds.
Contents - The NC shall contain 32,768 words of
3.5.7.4
memory.  It shall be designed to accommodate expansion to 65,536 words
of memory, with the growth in increments of 16 K.  Memory growth shall
require no physical size changes or electrical modifications to the NC.
The memory harness and connectors necessary for memory growth to 65,536
words shall be present in the NC.  Memory growth shall be accomplished
by adding the desired number of memory planes.  The NC shall contain the
following major functions:
Processor - The processor shall be a parallel type with
3.5.7.4.1
the following characteristics:
Two's complement, fixed point
(1) Number System:
16 bit instructions, 16/32 bit data
(2) Word length:
103 minimum instructions allowing
(3) Instruction Repertoire:
single and double precision
arithmetic, conditioned branch
and logic operation, as defined
in Figures 33 and 34.
Modification to the memory discretes shall be accomplished on the memory
harness card so that the discretes shall be appropriate to the particular
memory configuration being installed.
