MIL-N-85005A(AS)
An Initial Production Sample Test may be conducted on one
of the first ten equipments offered for acceptance at the direction of
the procuring activity.  If an initial production sample test is conducted
as above, no Sample Test need be conducted. Sampling Tests are not required
when Reliability Assurance Tests are conducted.
*4.4.2.1 Scope of Tests - As a minimum, each equipment selected for
sampling tests shall be subjected to the following tests:
(1) Complete operational test at ambient room conditions,
making all necessary measurements to assure that all
applicable specification requirements have been met.
(2) Operational test at certain environmental conditions.
The conditions may vary for each equipment tested
and should be based on results of the preproduction,
initial production, individual and special tests.

Reliability Development Test
4.4.3.1
4.4.3.1.1 Test Details - Reliability Assurance Tests shall consist of
a Reliability Development Test in accordance with AR-104.  Four (4) sys-
tems shall be tested.  Accumulated operating time on each test sample shall
be a minimum of 500 hours.  The total cumulative operating time shall be
3000 hours.
The environmental conditions shall comply with the require-
ments of MIL-STD-781B test level E except that the temperature extremes
shall be -30C and +55C.
The duty cycle (power on time) shall be in accordance with
MIL-STD-781B except that for temperature cycling there shall be time to
stabilize at low temperature plus time to stabilize at high temperature,
plus sufficient time at high temperature to allow for a total cycle time
of 12 hours.  Equipment performance shall be measured and recorded at
high temperature following a period of stabilization as indicated by prior
thermal survey.
4.4.3.1.2 Test Failures and Corrective Action - Failures shall be
classified in accordance with AR-104 except that reclassification shall be
permitted when approved by the procuring activity.  Failures of illuminated
indicators (where readily replaceable by the operator) and time totalizing
meters shall not be used in calculating system reliability.
