4.3.2 Rain test.  The printing plant shall be exposed to simulated rainfall at the
rate of 3 inches, plus or minus 1 inch per hour as measured at the surface of the
equipment by a U.S. Weather Bureau type gauge.  The rainfall shall be produced by
means of a water spray nozzle of such design that the water is emitted in the form
of droplets,  The angle of rainfall shall be varied up to 45 degrees from vertical.
The rainfall shall be dispersed uniformly over the test area within rainfall limits
specified above.  Each of the four sides including the air conditioner shall be
exposed to the rainfall for not less than 15 minutes for total duration of not less
than 1 hour.  Each side exposure shall include exposure of the top.  Any evidence
of water or dampness within the shelter shall constitute failure of this test,
4.3.3 Performance test.  Each completed shelter shall be connected to a suitable
electric power source, the water storage system shall be filled to capacity and
equipment operated as follows:
Vacuum Frame - Check vacuum for evenness of light distribution by means
a.
of gray scale and screens.
Contact Print Light - Check timer and light operation,
b.
Water tank/drain system - Pump water from tank, 1 quart at a time,
c.
using electrical switch,  Insure drain allows removal of water from
basin without leaks.
Air conditioner - Operate each air conditioner, using all modes of
d.
operation cool, vent, low heat and high heat.  Determine temperature
change by observing thermostat 68-70F/45-50 percent psychrometer
humidity.
Varigraph - Prepare test display lettering in accordance with test
e.
artwork.
f.
Phototypesetter - Prepare text operating phototypesetter for 2 hours.
Light Tables - Turn lights on and check for illumination.
g.
Viewing Light - Turn lights on and check for illumination.
h.
Vertical Camera - Determine parallel alignment by using graph method.
i.
Optically check dimensional stability at 25, 50, 100, 200 and 400
percent.
PMT Processor - Operate using camera prepared test material.
j.
Film Dryer - Process 12 wet ortho sheets.
k.
Duplicator/Press w/colorhead - Produce 20 reams of printed material,
1.
at variable speeds.  Run for at least 1 hour at 10,000 impressions
per hour.
m.
Paper Cutter - Cut 20 reams of 11 by 17 inches paper stock into 3 by
5 inches leaflets.  Check for feathering and incomplete cuts.
n,
Electrical system - Check on lights, switch, buttons and electrical
outlets.
Doors/Drawers - Check on doors and drawers for smooth operation,

Any electrical or mechanical malfunction, leak in the water supply or drainage
system or deviation in quality of duplicating machine output shall constitute
failure of this test (see 3.4.2).
