MIL-S-20706A
4.5.2.2 Draft load. The scarifier housing shall be installed on
the test stand, all mounting bolts and nuts shall be tightened, and
the shank shall be mounted in the housing in accordance with figure
2 and table II.  A jack shall be installed with the center of the
jack in line with the lower end of the shank bar as shown on figure 2.
A deflection gage shall be mounted on the frame of the test stand,
and the stem shall contact the shank at the point shown in figure 2.
The initial load shown in table II shall be applied for not less than
2 minutes for the size being tested for seating all parts. Pressure
shall be released and gages reset at zero before the terminal load is
applied. The terminal load shall be applied for not less than 10 min-
utes. Damage to or permanent deformation beyond the maximum allowable
set specified in table II shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.3 Lateral load test.  The searifier housing shall be installed
on the test stand, all mounting bolts and nuts shall be tightened, and
the shank shall be mounted in the housing in accordance with figure 3
and table III. The base of the jack shall rest against a narrow bar
to permit the arm pivot through a small arc which occurs in flexing
the shank. An indicator gage for registering housing deflection shall
be mounted on the frame as shown in figure 3. The initial load shown
in table III shall be applied for not less than 2 minutes for the size
being tested for seating all parts. Pressure shall be released, and
gages shall be reset at zero before the terminal load is applied.
The terminal load specified in table III for the size being tested
shall be applied for not less than 10 minutes. Damage to or permanent
defomation beyond the maximum allowable set specified in table III
shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.4 Latch mechanism.  When the spring latch mechanisms speci-
fied, the type I housing shall be tilted at an angle of 50 degrees
from vertical with the spring actuated latch mechanism in place to
prevent the shank from hanging vertically due to the force of gravity.
The shank shall be pulled to vertical position by hand and released.
Failure of the mechanism to return the shank to its working position
in the housing with the edge of the shank contacting the housing base
shall constitute failure of this test.
4.6 Inspection of preparation for delivery.
4.6.1 Quality conformance inspection of pack.
4.6.1.1 Unit of product. For the purpose of inspection, a completely
processed pack prepared for shipment shall be considered a unit of product.
