MILITARY SPECIFICATION SHEET
SEMITRAILER, DUMP, COMMERCIAL
SIZE 10, REFUSE SPECIAL
This specification sheet is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the
Department of Defense.
The complete requirements for procuring the refuse special dump semitrailer described herein
shall consist of this document and the latest issue of Specification MIL-S-46777.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. The size 10 refuse special rear dump semitrailer shall be equipped with tandem (2-each)
axles and as specified herein and in table I.
2. Size 10 (refuse special).
(a) Overal height, with the semitrailer unloaded, shall not exceed 144 inches excluding the
bows and the canvas cover.
(b) Level bed height of the body floor shall not exceed 58 inches with the semitrailer
unloaded.
(c) Inside body length and height shall be approximately 294 inches and 86 inches,
respectively.
(d) Dump angle of the body shall be not less than 46 degrees.
(e) The body shall be of flat-front design with 10-inch radius front corners.
(f) The body shall be of high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) steel with minimum nominal
thickness of 0.1644 inch for floor plates and minimum nominal thickness of 0.1046 inch
for side plates.
(g) Inside body width between the top of the sides shall be approximately 2 inches greater
than at the bottom of the sides.
(h) Inside body width at the rear shall be approximately 6 inches greater than at the front.
(i) Catwalks of raised pattern or open antiskid grating shall be furnished along each side of
the body and shall be hinged to fold against the sides so as to be within the legal
highway width limit. The catwalks shall be in accordance with the SAE J185 and
Department of Labor OSHA requirements. The catwalk location shall be approximately
3 feet below the top of the sides. Ladders shall be furnished on each side, at front and at
rear. The rear ladders shall extend below the floor of the body to enable personnel to
board the semitrailer from ground level. The lowest rung of ladders shall be not more
than 30 inches from the ground.
