3.9 Drives.
3.9.1 Chain. The chains used in drive trains shall be in accord-
ance with MIL-STD-421, MIL-D-423, or MIL-STD-424. Chain drives
shall have tension adjustment.
3.9.2 V-belt.

B55.l; or Rubber

3.9.3 Gear. Gear drives shall be in accordance with Standard B6.6, class 2
or class 3. Gear drives shall be totally enclosed and shall run in an
oil bath. The enclosures shall be as specified in 3.18.4. Cast iron,
when used for gears, shall conform to ASTM A-536, analysis and heat
treatment as applicable. The driving pinion shall be steel.
3.9.5.l Torque arm speed reducers. On torque arm speed reducers the
torque arm shall be attached to the speed reducer housing by means of
one or two brackets. Each bracket shall be attached to the speed re-
ducer housing by not less than two belts. If the torque arm is not
used to tighten the drive belt or chain, the torque arm shall be at
an angle of 90 degrees plus or minus 30 degrees with a line drawn be-
tween the output shaft and the point at which the torque arm iS attached

belt or chain, the torque arm shall be at an angle of 90 degrees plus
or minus 10 degrees with a line drawn between the input and output
shafts of the speed reducer. The angular measurements specified herein
shall apply when the drive belt or chain is properly adjusted for tension.
3.l0 Feeder assembly. A feeder assembly consisting of a surge
hopper with removable grizzly, and an electric-motor-driven recipro-
cating plate feeder with adjustable gate, shall be mounted over the
hopper of the feed conveyor. The complete feeder assembly shall be de-
mountable.

be equipped with a demountable sloping bar grizzly. With the feeder
