3.4 Payload capacity. The rated payload capacity shall be not less than the weight computed
from the rated liquid volume, using 1.0 kilogram per liter (KG/L) (8.3 pounds per gallon). Load
bearing members shall be rated for the loads imposed with the tank in a horizontal position, and
the liquid payload level in the tank.
*  3.4.1 Total axle load. The gross weight (curb weight plus payload) on the axle(s) shall not
exceed 9070 kg (20,000 pounds) for single axle semitrailers, and 15 400 kg (34,000 pounds) for
tandem axle semitrailers.
3.5 Dimensions and clearances. The semitrailer, uncoupled from the truck tractor, resting on
its landing legs on level ground, without payload, and with the tank body within 1 percent of
level, shall conform to the dimensions specified in table I.

3.6. Frame. The semitrailer shall be of the frame or frameless type.
*  3.6.1 Stress analysis. The contractor shall perform a stress analysis. The analysis shall verify
compliance with the requirements specified and shall include at least the following calculations
and diagrams:
