MIL-S-62127A(AT)
specified herein. The cylinders shall be necked down and threaded both internally and externally
on each end.
*
3.8.5.5 Cylinder dimensions. Each cylinder shall be not more than 22 feet in length nor
more than 10 inches in outside diameter. The external neck threads shall be not less than
2-1/8 inches in length nor less than 2 inches in diameter. The internal neck threads shall provide
for installation of type 07-581-1 oil-free helium valves conforming to MIL-V-2.
3.8.5.6 Servicing rate. The semitrailer valving and manifold system shall be of sufficient
gas-handling capacity to insure that, when all individual cylinder shutoff valves are open to the
manifold and all cylinders are at a pressure not exceeding 250 pounds per square inch
gage (psig), the semitrailer will be capable of delivering helium gas through the manifold final
outlet fitting against atmospheric pressure at a rate of not less than 1,000 cubic feet per minute at
760 millimeters mercury (mm Hg) and 21C.
3.8.6.1 Control cabinet and assembly. A sturdy, sheet-metal cabinet shall be provided
for the cylinder valves, cylinder manifold assembly, and semitrailer accessories. The cabinet
shall be mounted on the rear of the semitrailer chassis with the rear bulkhead forming the
forward wall.
3.8.6 Cabinet.
3.8.6.1.1 Cabinet design. The cabinet assembly shall be designed and constructed to
protect the enclosed components from mechanical damage, direct solar radiation, rain, snow,
sleet, sand and mud. The top of the control cabinet and the tops of all protruberances therefrom
shall be shaped and slanted to resist the retention of rain, snow, or sleet. The operating control
panels shall be constructed so that snow or ice will not lodge thereon and prevent easy access or
operation.
3.8.6.1.2 Removal. The cabinet shall be constructed so that it can be readily removed
without disturbing the storage cylinders or cylinder manifold assemblies.
3.8.6.1.3 Ventilation openings. Ventilation openings shall be provided at or near the top
of the control cabinet to prevent accumulation of gases in case of a leak. The ventilation
openings shall be so located or shielded that the entrance of rain, snow, or other precipitation will
be prevented.
