6. NOTES
6.1 Intended use. The PATRIOT semitrailer towed by a suitable towing vehicle with crane is
intended for use in the PATRIOT Air Defense System as the Guided Missile Transporter (M976)
or as the Large Repair Parts Transporter (M1033).
6.1.1 Semitrailer preparation. The trailer manufactured in accordance with this specification
is prepared from a base trailer M974. A conversion kit then is installed for M976 and M1033
models. The M976 and M1033 are missile system support equipment trailers which provide
respectively (1) a capability to deliver and load resupplied missile rounds and (2) a means to
transport and store large, heavy repair parts. The M976 has a capacity of four missile rounds, and
the integral crane on the towing vehicle has the capability of transferring missile rounds from
trailer to missile launcher. Stowage space is also provided on the M1033 for items of handling
equipment needed to move heavy repair parts.
