3.3.1.8 Mechanical properties.  After quenching in oil maintained at
125 5 F from 1575" 25 F and tempering for 2 hours, minimum, at a
temperature of 700 F, minimum, the material shall have the following
mechanical properties:
a.
Yield strength (0,2 percent offset)
Longitudinal or transverse 190,000 psi, min.
Ultimate strength, longitudinal or
b.
215,000 psi, min.

c.
Elongation in four diameters
(1) For stock 6 inches or less in
greatest thickness, longitu-
10 percent, min.

(2) For stock over 6 inches in
greatest thickness, trans-

Impact strength (V-notch)
10 foot-pounds, min.
3.3.1.8.1 Bars shall be capable of meeting:  longitudinal tensile
strength--215,000 psi, min.; longitudinal yield strength (0,2% offset)--
190,000 psi, min.; and longitudinal elongation in 2 inches--lO%, based or
a forged or rolled 4-inch round heattreated in accordance with 3.3.1.8.
3.3.1.9 Internal defects.  When inspected in accordance with table I,
internal defects of bars, forgings, and forging stock shall be in accord-
ance with the following requirements.
3.3.1.9.1 Inclusion rating.  This rating is based on specimens
representing the worst area of inclusions in the deliverable product.
The procedure for determining the inclusion ratings shall be performed
in accordance with method A, of ASTM E 45, The inclusion rating shall
not exceed the average values listed in table IV.
3.3.1.9.2 Ultrasonic indications,  Internal defects shall not exceed
the criteria established for quality level I indications specified in
MIL-S-81055.
