3.6 Details of components
3.6.1 Basic container. The basic container shall provide a minimum interior
volume consistent with the requirements specified-herein. Where it is necessary
to provide holes in the basic container, there shall be no interstices greater
than 1/16 inch. This requirement shall also apply to the lid parting lines
with the basic container packed with equipment. The basic container shall be
built so that the parts will not work loose in service and shall withstand the
strains, jars, and-any other conditions incident to shipment, storage, installa-
tion, and service without failure. The top surface of the lid shall be furnished
with cushion attachment provisions to mate with the cushion specified in 3.6.6.
3.6.2 Inner container. The inner container shall conform to MIL-C-83864.
3.6.3 Retention straps. Two retention straps to retain the inner container
after deployment and during parachute descent shall be installed diagonally in
the survival kit container. The retention straps shall conform to MIL-S-83862.
3.6.4 Automatic actuator. The automatic actuator shall be designed as a
cartridge actuated device in accordance with MIL-C-25918, shall be constructed
so that-parts will not work loose in service, and shall meet the requirements
specified herein. The automatic actuator shall have a cartridge to control
actuation with respect to time after parachute deployment and to provide the
power to operate the hardware of the survival kit container. The automatic
actuator shall be operated by a parachute deployment sensing cable assembly that
will release the actuator firing pin to fire the cartridge when the parachute
canopy risers are deployed from the pack.
3.6.4.1 Cartridge. The cartridge shall be a 4-second (plus or minus l-second]
time delay, percussion-type, expansible, closed system cartridge (a cartridge
that deforms but does not rupture upon firing). The cartridge shall conform to
General American Research Div Drawing 1462C6000.
3.6.5 Parachute deployment sensing cable assembly. The parachute deployment
sensing cable assembly shall consist of an upper actuating cable assembly to be
mounted on the automatic back style personnel parachute covered by the -22 con-
figuration on Drawing 50C7024 and of a lower actuating cable assembly to be
mounted on the survival kit container. The upper actuating cable assembly and
the lower actuating cable assembly shall conform to Air Lock, Inc. Drawings
918-2900 and 918-2800, respectively.
3.6.6 Cushion. The cushion for the CNU-129(V)1/P survival kit container shall
conform to Drawing 72292. The cushipm for the CNU-129(V)2/P survival kit con-
tainer shall conform to the -30 configuration on Drawing 72294. The cushion for
the CNU-130/P survival kit container shall conform to the -10 configuration on
Drawing 72294.
