accidental actuation or failure due to wear or interference from associated
objects shall not occur.
Interchangeability of critical parts. All critical parts of the survival

kit containers such as the lids, the cushions of the same part number, the
operating handles, and the survival kit container attaching hardware shall be
interchangeable in accordance with MIL-I-8500.
Proof loads. After the proof loads specified in 3.7.12.1.1, 3.7.12,2,
3.7.4
3.7.12.4, and 3.7.12.6 have been applied to the survival kit container, the .
survival kit container shall operate as specified in 3.7.2.l and 3.7.2.2 and
shall not be damaged nor permanently deformed.
3.7.5
Lid retention
Lid locking mechanism. The lid locking latches shall unlock automatical-

ly when either the automatic actuator or the operating handle is activated, The
lid retaining mechanism shall not permit the lid to separate from the container
when an internal load of 700 pounds is applied to the lid. There shall be no
visible evidence of failure of the lid locks. After an internal load of 700
pounds has been applied to the lid, the hardware of the survival kit container
shall operate satisfactorily as specified in 3.7.2.1 and 3.7.2.2.
Aft compartment lid. The aft compartment lid shall not separate from

the aft compartment, become unlocked, nor show any evidence of damage or perma-
nent deformation when a load of250 pounds is applied to the aft compartment lid.
