3.7.9 Windblast. When the survival kit container is subjected to windblast
of 600 knots at sea level or equivalent, the lid shall not seprate from the
survival kit container, and the operating handle shall remain on the survival
kit container. After the survival kit container has been subjected to windblast
of 600 knots at sea level or equivalent, the hardware of the survival kit con-
tainer shall operate satisfactorily as specified in 3.7.2.1 and 3.7.2.2.
3.7.10 Magnetic interference. The survival kit container shall not deflect
a pilot's standby compass (MS17983 or equivalent) more than 3 degrees when the
survival kit container is placed 6 inches from the face of the compass.
3.7.11 Adjuster
3.7.11.1 Adjuster creep. The webbing shall not slip through the adjuster
more than 1/2 inch when alternating loads of 20 pounds and C pound are applied
for 30 cycles in each of the following three directions: normal and 30 degrees
to each side of the survival kit container hardware.
3.7.11.2 Release of adjuster. With an initial load of 20 pounds of tension
applied to the attachment webbing, the adjuster shall allow complete slippage
of the webbing when a 30-pound load is applied to the slider assembly.
3.7.12 Static load
3.7.12.1 Parachute attaching hardware
3.7.12.1.1 Hardware and container section. The parachute attaching hardware
and the container section to which it is attached shall withstand load conditions
of 1,400 pounds (proof) and 2,100 pounds (ultimate) for each side without struc-
tural failure.
3.7.12.1.2 Handle operation. With a load of 100 pounds applied to the parachute
attaching hardware and to each side of the survival kit container hardware, a
pull of less than 40 pounds applied 2 inches from the forward end of the handle
and moved through the arc of the handle travel shall result in operation of the
handle and release of the survival kit container hardware under emergency ground
egress and parachute descent operating conditions,
3.7.12.2 Container (seating section). The seating section of the basic con-
tainer shall not show any tainer structural failure or permanent deformation after the
survival kit container has been subjected to a compression load of 4,500 pounds
proof. The ultimate strength of the seating section of the basic container shall
be 5,600 pounds.
3.7.12.3 Handle side load. When the operating handle is installed in the normal
locked position and an outward proof load of 500 pounds is applied to the operating
handle, the operating handle shall not be permanently deformed nor damaged.
