MIL-S-85018A(AS)
3.5.1.5.2.1 Heading Information - Means shall be provided for maintaining
the heading synchronization through a complete power dropout of 60 seconds so
that heading outputs after the power interruption is removed shall not differ
from the heading outputs prior to the power interruption by more than 1.0
degree.
3.5.1.5.3 Damage Prevention - Means shall be provided to prevent damage to
the gyroscopic assembly when it is blanked and pitched plus or minus 60 degrees
or more during a power interruption of O to 90 seconds.
3.5.1.6 Malfunction Monitoring - Built-in-Test Equipment
3.5.1.6.1 Organizational Level BITE Provisions - The equipment shall
include BITE provisions as defined herein per AR-10.
3.5.1.6.2 BITE - General - BITE provisions as defined herein shall
accomplish the following:
(1) In-flight and organizational level fault detection
(2) In-flight and organizational level isolation of faulty
weapons replaceable assembly.
3.5.1.6.3 BITE Methods - BITE shall make the maximum use of subsystem
functional circuits to accomplish its purpose.  The two forms of BITE are:
(1) Automatic continuous BITE (voltage measurements, etc) for
all system functions practical.
(2) Ground, manually activated BITE shall be employed to
monitor/test the detector.
The automatic continuous BITE shall not interfere with the normal Amplifier Con-
trol Assembly or remove the signals of the Compass Transmitter normal operation
or cause incorrect data to be transmitted from the Electronic Control Amplifier
to any interfacing equipment.
3.5.1.6.4 BITE Operating Modes - BITE operating modes shall be as follows:
(1) Automatic Operation - BITE shall operate continuously and
automatically whenever the equipment is in operational status and shall provide
the degree of fault detection capability specified herein.
(2) Manual Operation - The detector function shall be a manual
mode test a ground operator activating the BITE switch.
3.5.1.6.5 BITE Performance -
3.5.1.6.5.1 Test Thoroughness - BITE provisions shall functionally test all
system equipments.  Testing of individual weapons replaceable units, subassem-
blies, circuit, etc, without assessing the overall functional capability of the
equipments shall not be acceptable.
