4.2.2 First Article Testing. First Article testing shall be
specifically authorized by the approving activity. At the option
of the approving activity, any or all first article tests
required may be conducted on starter/APUs submitted for first
article, for sampling, for production acceptance, or on any unit
delivered under a production contract for which conformance to
this specification is required.
4.2.3 Sampling Tests. Each equipment of the same part number
delivered as an approved item under this specification shall be
numbered sequentially in essentially the order that it is
submitted for government acceptance regardless of the contract
under which delivered or by whom purchased. To meet the delivery
requirement for the first 50 components, 51 components must
successfully complete the required acceptance tests; 50 of which
are to be shipped as directed by the applicable contract(s); and
one component selected at random by the Government Inspector is
to be forwarded to the Naval Air Propulsion Center (PE61),
Trenton, New Jersey 08628. Additional samples will not be
required unless directed by the applicable contract. The span of
serial numbers of the Production units from which each sample was
selected shall be recorded and this information included with the
sample. The sample shall be shipped no later than the final unit
in the production group from which selected. The units forwarded
to the Naval Air Propulsion Center will be inspected and examined
for conformance to this specification. Tests will be conducted
at the discretion of the approving activity. The sample unit
will be returned to the supplier with a report of the government
test results at the conclusion of the sampling tests. Delivery
of production units successfully passing the acceptance tests is
to be accepted until supplier is officially notified of
noncompliance of units with this specification.
Shipping authorization and instructions are to be given by
the cognizant Government Inspector when the sample unit is
selected.
