measured from the ground level to the top of the loose dirt at the bottom of the hole.
3.5.3.2 Leveling mechanisms. The boring assembly shall be equipped with a hydraulic
leveling device to permit the setting of the auger in a vertical position regardless of the tilt of the

lowering to the traveling position.
*
3.5.3.3 Stabilizing supports. Two hydraulically operated modified "A" frame stabilizing
supports shall be furnished to support the truck during drilling operations. The supports shall
have a minimum spread of 125 inches.
*
3.5.3.4 Auger. The auger shall be raised, lowered, rotated, and forced into the earth by a
hydraulically controlled mechanism. A minimum 6,500 pound capacity, hydraulically
operated, telescoping derrick, sheave, and pole guide shall be furnished. A trombone tube
assembly shall be provided to supply hydraulic oil to the pole guide and prevent hose damage.
Exposed hoses not protected/trombone enclosed are not acceptable.

3.5.4 High speed throw-off. A high speed throw-off shall be provided. Operation of the
high speed throw-off shall not be dependent on shifting the transmission. The throw-off speed
shall be sufficient to clear soil from the auger bit and deposit it so that when the auger is digging
maximum depth holes, the soil will not fall back into the hole.
*
3.5.5 Auger unit winch. A heavy duty, single drum winch having the rated single line
pull capacity of not less than 10,000 pounds on the bare drum shall be furnished. The winch
shall have not less than one forward and one reverse speed. The winch shall conform to
SAE J706. An integral, adjustable, automotive safety brake shall be provided. The winch shall
be wound with 150 feet of 7/16-inch, preformed, 6x37, improved plow steel, wire rope having
