passengers hand(s).
3.5.4 Rear compartment. The rear compartment loadspace at the floor level in back of the

length shall be measured at the floor level between the compartment partition and the rear doors.
The rear compartment side of the partition shall be smooth and free of any sharp edges or corners
which could result in injury to passengers either willfully or accidentally. The rear compartment
interior roof lining and roof bows shall be fabricated and installed to prevent occupants from
manually pulling down or damaging the bows and liner.
3.5.4.1 Rear doors. When side facing bench seats are provided, double rear doors, hinged at
the sides, shall be provided. The doors shall be provided with clear (not one-way privacy type)
safety glass in the upper section of each door. The windows shall be completely covered on the
inside with steel screen as specified in 3.5.4.6. Both rear doors shall have latches on the outside
only, both capable of being opened from the outside, and shall be such as to prevent opening
from the inside. Door checks shall be provided to hold doors in the full open position. Grab
handles shall be provided on the inside of the doors.
3.5.4.2 Side door. When forward facing bench seats are provided, an entrance door located
on the curbside of the rear compartment shall be furnished. The door may be of either the sliding
or hinged type. The door shall have latches on the outside only, capable of being opened from
the outside, and shall be such as to prevent opening from the inside. In addition to the side door,
rear door(s), if provided as the manufacturer's standard, shall be rendered incapable of being
opened. Clear (not one-way privacy type) safety glass windows shall be provided in the upper
section at the rear. Windows shall be completely covered on the inside with steel screen in
