The insulation shall be either flexible or batt type, asbestos free fibrous or cellular material,
having a moisture absorption capacity of less than 2 percent by weight. Materials shall be
odorless and fire-retardant. The insulation shall neither breed nor promote the growth of fungus
and shall neither cause nor accelerate corrosion of steel, copper or aluminum. The insulation
shall be cemented to the inner side of external walls and provided with means to retain insulation
under all operating conditions. The cement shall be waterproof and the resulting bond shall
provide a shear strength sufficient to prevent sag of the insulation when the assembled vehicle is

production vehicle inspection (see 4.3). When removed, the light and mounting devices shall be
packaged and stowed within the vehicle, and the roof opening shall be provided with a
weather-tight cover. Provisions for reinstalling the light, including access to the light wiring,
shall be provided.
3.6.1 Strobe light. When specified (see 6.2), in lieu of the warning light specified in 3.6, a
strobe type warning light shall be furnished. The warning light shall be an integral solid-state
unit, having a xenon tube peak output rating of not less than 1,000,000 candlepower and a flash
rate of 90 + 15 flashes per minute. The strobe light unit shall include a xenon flash tube with
optic lens, mounted in a weatherproof housing, with protective clear or colored dome and
corrosion-resistant metal base. The housing shall be not less than 8-1/2 inches high and
8-3/4 inches base diameter. The warning light color shall be red. The mounting, installation,
wiring and switch shall be as specified in 3.6.
3.7 Grille mounted warning lights. When specified (see 6.2), two red flashing warning
