3.10.3 Left rear controls, type II. The controls for type II vehicles shall be located at the
left rear of the vehicle. An operator's platform shall be furnished. The platform shall be located
at the left rear corner of the body. The platform shall isolate the operator from ground in the
event of the derrick contacting an energized electrical line. The platform shall be of the folding
type.
3.10.4 Controls in basket. In addition to the lower controls, controls shall be provided at
the basket(s) for rotating, extending, retracting, elevating and lowering the derrick to its fullest
extent. If telescopic linkage type controls between the basket(s) and the lower controls are
provided, the top section of the telescopic tubes shall be spiral wound fiberglass. Design and
placement of the controls shall be so as to prevent inadvertent actuation by the operator. The
lower controls shall be capable of overriding the basket controls and of rendering the basket
controls inoperative. When two baskets are furnished, the controls in the basket shall be within
easy reach of either basket. The controls at the basket shall be located at the right or left side of
the basket in a position easily accessible to the operator facing the work area. Controls on the
front or rear of the basket shall not be furnished. The controls shall be identified as to their
function. When two baskets are furnished, the identification plates shall be located to be seen
from either basket. The identification plates shall be located at the controls and shall be readable
in all positions of the extended derrick.
3.11 Outriggers. Two hydraulically operated outriggers shall be provided for size 55 and
four hydraulically operated outriggers shall be provided for size 70 vehicles. The outriggers
shall enable leveling of the vehicle on inclined surfaces and shall ensure adequate stability with
relation to the ground while operating the derrick under loads and conditions specified in 3.3.3
through 3.3.8. The outrigger cylinder hydraulic fittings, hoses, tubing, and pilot check valves,
when not enclosed, shall be protected by metal guards and accessible for service. The guards
shall withstand being stepped on without damage to the guards, hydraulic lines, or fittings. The
outriggers shall be designed so that they may be extended over curbings and sidewalks.
3.11.1 Outrigger controls. An individual control for each outrigger shall be furnished.
All controls for the left outriggers shall be provided at the rear left corner of the vehicle and
controls for the right outriggers shall be provided at the rear right corner of the vehicle. All
outrigger controls shall be installed in a readily accessible location which permits operation from
ground level. An automatic pilot check valve shall be provided for each outrigger to block the
hydraulic fluid in the cylinder and to prevent movement of the outriggers in the event of a
damaged hydraulic line. Interlocks shall be furnished to prevent the operation of the derrick
assembly until the right and left side outriggers have descended into place on the ground surface.
